Find an exact age from a date of birth, at today or at any date you choose. The result gives years, months and days, the total number of days, and the next birthday.

How the Age Calculator Works
The Age Calculator works out exactly how old someone is on a specific date, not just the difference in years. You enter a date of birth and a date to measure on, which is today by default, and it returns the age in completed years, months, and days, plus the total number of days lived and the date of the next birthday. People use it for school and sports eligibility, pension planning, insurance forms, legal age checks, birthday planning, and simple curiosity.
The method is a real calendar date difference, not a rough estimate based on 365 days per year. First the calculator counts the whole years completed between the two dates, checking whether the birthday has already happened in the measuring year. It then counts the whole months completed since that last birthday, and finally the remaining days, borrowing the correct number of days from the previous month when needed. The total days figure is counted day by day across the actual calendar, so every leap day, including 29 February in leap years, is included automatically, and whole weeks are found by dividing that total by seven.
This calculator implements the method with actual calendar dates, so months with 28, 29, 30, or 31 days are all handled correctly and there is no rounding. You can measure age on any past or future date, useful for a school cut-off, competition, or planned retirement date. The next birthday is always shown as the first birthday strictly after the date you selected, so if you measure on the birthday itself, the next birthday shown is the following year’s. If the birth date is after the measuring date, check the order of the dates.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the date of birth in the date of birth field, using the date picker or typing the full date.
- Leave the measuring date as today, or change it to any past or future date you want to check.
- Press Calculate to run the date difference.
- Read the main age in years, months, and days, then check the extra details below it.
- Note the total days, the whole weeks, and the next birthday date for your form or plan.
Example
For a tested example, enter a date of birth of 2000-01-01 and measure the age on 2020-01-01. The result is exactly 20 years, 0 months, 0 days, because the person has just reached their twentieth birthday on that day. The total is 7,305 total days, a figure that includes the leap days in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016. The next birthday is shown as 2021-01-01, because the next birthday must fall strictly after the measuring date, even when that date is itself a birthday.
As a second example, enter a date of birth of 1995-05-10 and measure on 2025-05-09, the day before the birthday. The result is 29 years, 11 months, 29 days, because the thirtieth birthday has not quite arrived yet. The next birthday is 2025-05-10, just one day later, which shows why a single day can change the completed years on a strict form.
Understanding Your Result
The years, months, and days figure is the age most official forms want, because it counts only time that has been fully completed. A child who is 9 years, 11 months, and 20 days old is still nine for almost every rule, even though their tenth birthday is very close. The total days figure is exact for countdowns, milestones such as 10,000 days old, and comparisons between people born in different years, where leap days would skew a simple estimate.
Keep a few practical points in mind when you use the result:
- Age rules differ, so always check whether a school, league, or agency uses age on a specific cut-off date rather than age today.
- Time of birth is not used here, so a result measured on the birthday itself counts the whole day as reached.
- Double-check the year you typed, because a single wrong digit is the most common reason for a surprising result.
Age Calculator FAQs
Does this calculator count leap days correctly?
Yes, it counts across the real calendar, so every 29 February between the two dates is included in the total days. That is why a 20-year span can contain 7,305 days rather than a simple 20 times 365.
Why is my age in months and days not what I expected?
The calculator counts only whole months and days that have been fully completed since your last birthday. If your monthly anniversary date has not been reached yet in the current month, that month is not counted yet.
What does next birthday mean if today is my birthday?
The next birthday is always the first birthday strictly after the date you selected. If you measure on your birthday itself, the result will show the birthday in the following year, not today.
Can I check age on a future date?
Yes, set the measuring date to any future date, such as a school cut-off or retirement date. The calculator will work out the completed age on that day.
Can I use this for a pet, a business, or an object?
Yes, any start date works, such as the day you adopted a pet or founded a company. Enter it as the date of birth and measure on the date you care about.
